Sign on the back side of the former Toys "R" Us store in Gaithersburg, Maryland, still lit up approximately three months after the store closed along with the rest of the company. This sign most likely dates from the 1980s, and was removed in the spring of 2019.

This store was of an unusual design, as the building was shared with a Montgomery Ward store. Toys "R" Us was housed in about half of the building's lower level, whhile Wards had the rest of the lower level and the entire upper level. Montgomery Ward closed in 1983, and a Burlington Coat Factory now occupies the former Wards space.
