Abandoned gas station, January 15, 2021
Abandoned Fine Petro gas station on US 30 westbound between Atlantic City and Absecon, New Jersey. The station had previously operated operated as a Gulf station at least through 2015, and by 2017, it was operating under the Delta brand. By 2018, it had rebranded to Fine Petro, and had closed for good by October 2019. I don’t know exactly when the canopy fell over, nor do I know the sequence of events that led to its failure, but based on a visual examination of the supports, it was clear that the canopy gave up without much of a fight, as two of the three support columns had given way in a brittle manner at their base. Only the northernmost column showed any evidence of buckling.

Penthouse at Hotel 24 South, March 9, 2021
Exploring the penthouse at Hotel 24 South, formerly the Stonewall Jackson Hotel, in downtown Staunton, Virginia. The penthouse space was originally intended for use as living quarters for the owner of the Stonewall Jackson Hotel. When the building was expanded and renovated to its current form in 2005, the penthouse was not included in the renovation work due to a lack of elevator access. Therefore, the space retains many vintage architectural and decorative elements. The current hotel management uses this space primarily for storage. Photographed March 9, 2021.

Former Walmart in Leesburg, Virginia, March 15, 2021
Former Walmart store in the Shenandoah Square shopping center in Leesburg, Virginia. This store closed in May 2019 when Walmart moved to a new Supercenter store elsewhere in the Leesburg area. Due to longstanding plans to relocate this store, this store never received the new Walmart logo, and the final interior was the mid-2000s decor package with brown walls and large wall signs. The store looked like this prior to its closing.
