Former Waynesboro District Home building at 1400 Duke Road in Waynesboro, Virginia. The facility, known as the "poor farm", provided somewhat minimal care for Virginians who, whether due to poverty, infirmity, or old age, were not able to care for themselves. The facility served residents in Augusta, Ablemarle, Alleghany, Bath, and Rockbridge Counties, along with the cities of Waynesboro, Lexington, Covington, and Charlottesville. The facility opened in 1927 and closed on May 6, 1999, and has been abandoned ever since.
