Interior of the former Peebles store at Staunton Mall, about two years and eight months after the store closed. This space originally housed a Woolworth's store, and then was renovated to house a Stone & Thomas department store after Woolworth's closed. After Stone & Thomas was bought by Elder-Beerman in 1998, the Staunton location was sold to Peebles, who made no changes to the store other than new signage and removal of a gift wrap counter.

At the time that this photo was taken, the building was in poor condition, as there was evidence of extensive water intrusion.
Many of the ceiling tiles had fallen down, the floors showed patterns where water had accumulated, and the building smelled strongly of mold.
