Sign along eastbound US 70 between Kinston and New Bern, North Carolina indicating that this stretch of road is planned to become Interstate 42 in the future, presumably pending improvements to the road to bring it up to Interstate highway standards. Surprisingly, “Interstate” is plated over on the green part of the sign, and the red portion of the shield also does not contain the word “Interstate”.
