Destination sign on a 3000-Series railcar, indicating that the train is a Yellow Line train traveling to Franconia-Springfield.

From 1999 to 2008, Metro ran a special service pattern on July 4.
In this special service pattern, the terminals of the Blue and Yellow Lines were switched, sending Yellow Line trains to Franconia-Springfield, and Blue Line trains to Huntington. Yellow Line trains traveled between Franconia-Springfield and Mt. Vernon Square.
