The place where a National Park Service plaque used to be located atop a raised portion of the retaining wall that surrounds the Raven's Roost overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. It helped visitors identify what features were in front of them, when viewed across the cone in the center of the plaque. When the plaque was still in place, it looked like this.
When I visited this area again in 2022, this plaque had been removed, and it was not clear why it was gone.
