Open gangway between the two cars in a married pair on a soft mockup of a pair of 8000-Series railcars, at Metro's Fleet of the Future Expo on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Open gangways are a new feature in the 8000-Series, replacing a set of bulkhead doors between the two cars in a married pair.

The purpose of the Fleet of the Future Expo was to demonstrate to the public the various features of the upcoming 8000-Series railcars, which will be manufactured by Hitachi.
