The Walnut Street Bridge, also known as "The People's Bridge", is a truss bridge built in 1890 that partially spans the Susquehanna River, connecting downtown Harrisburg with City Island, serving as something of a pedestrian and bicycle trail. Prior to a flooding-induced collapse of the west side of the bridge in 1996, the bridge spanned the entire river.
