Interior of WMATA railcar 2061, on the Orange Line of the Washington Metro. After an 18-month hiatus due to pandemic-related service reductions that required fewer railcars to operate the service, the 2000-Series railcars returned to revenue service in October 2021 following the temporary withdrawal of the newer 7000-Series railcars over safety concerns. Unlike the 3000 and 6000-Series railcars, which had their interiors updated in the late 2010s, the 2000-Series railcars retain the color scheme that they had when they returned to service following their mid-2000s rehabilitation, with maroon, blue, and yellow seats, and carpeted floors.
