Fort Carroll, an artificial island and former sea fort in the Patapsco River, just outside Baltimore, Maryland. The island was designed by Robert E. Lee, and built by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the mid 1800s, and was fully abandoned by the military by 1921. The island has been the subject of various alternative use proposals in the years since the military left, but none have materialized. The island was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.
