Interior of car 8013, an R11 car, manufactured by Budd in 1949.
These cars were the first stainless steel R-type cars to be built for the Subway. However, due to the cancellation of the Second Avenue Subway, only ten cars of this class were ever built. The cars were often used to test new railcar technologies, and were overhauled in 1965 under contract R34. The R11/R34 fleet was retired in 1977, following a yard accident that damaged one car. Nine cars were scrapped, with only car 8013's being preserved.
