Aerial view of the former Verona Elementary School, a public school in Verona, Virginia. This is one of four "pod schools" that Augusta County built in the 1960s. All of these pod schools closed in the 2010s, with Verona's closing in 2017. The former school was at one time under contract to house a church, however, those plans ultimately fell through. The property was then acquired by the Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center, and renovations to the facility began in 2024 to turn the former school into an animal shelter.
