Wreck of the SS Atlantus, one of twelve concrete ships built by the Liberty Ship Building Company in Brunswick, Georgia. She was launched in December 1918, intended for use in the World War I Emergency Fleet, with a life expectancy of about three of four years. The ship never saw service in the war, having been launched after the war ended, and was retired in 1920 after two years of operation and placed in a salvage yard in Virginia. The ship was then purchased in 1926 to be sunk for use as a ferry slip in Cape May, New Jersey. After the ship was towed to Cape May, a storm passed through the area, causing the ship to break free from her moorings and run aground off of Sunset Beach. Several attempts to free her were made, but all were unsuccessful.

The ship today lies where she grounded in 1926, and has slowly deteriorated in the face of the pounding surf.
